i think everyone is more or less at a point where we can decide what is right and what is wrong for ourselves.
it's just some people in society who don't really do. and to vent their displeasure they use despicable methods.
yesterday, my original plan was to take a leisurely stroll at the neighborhood park with my parents. and happens that about one day ago, i just bought a new pair of slippers because the grooves of the previous slipper had been smoothed out.
i didn't really expect my slipper to have any other use besides aiding my feet in walking and preventing the accident-prone me from sliding around.
when i came out of the lift, i met a couple of neighbors, said a few hellos and walked away. then somehow, when i was walking past the postbox, it felt as though something was burning.
and indeed i was right. a scarf like object was burning.
actually, a couple of days ago, i've noticed this scarf at the lift lobby. there were actually some religious writings on top (i would not go on to elaborate) and it appeared out of nowhere. i guess this was created by someone who wanted to spread the love for his/her religion to others.
and now, it was burning. with thick black fumes. and an open flame.
that was when the object that used to taste the aroma on my feet took a taste of how fire felt like.
fortunately, the fire wasn't that big, and it was easily put out. incidentally, the scarf lay on a wooden frame, so luckily the wood didn't catch fire or we'd have had a catastrophe.
okay, end of story. end of adventure. but what was to be a leisurely stroll turned out to be my first fire fighting experience.
nonetheless, after thinking about it, i felt really disgusted. and disturbed.
what has this rigid education system taught us about being sensitive to race and religion? what has the government preached, for us to be accommodative and understanding, gone to?
but when you look at this situation per se, people would clearly blame the person who set the fire. we didn't really see who it was, but any rational person would think of that being done by another religion.
i would be happy to see that person gets punished, personally. especially with what happened, and furthermore, it was just under my block, on a wooden base. if no one was around, who knows what might have happened?
however, one must look at the cause of the fire. what caused it? was it just plain malice? or was it due to another reason?
the other problem would be the person who put the scarf up. no offence to the religion, but not everyone would be comfortable in seeing that. especially that it was strategically located at a communal corridor, where all people from different races and religions are walking.
even for me, i wouldn't want to see my god/religious faces being pasted everywhere. i might believe or love my religion, but i don't see what is really wrong with other religions. every religion has their beliefs, and as long as they are good, i'm really fine with it.
however, not everyone is like me. some people have extreme values filled into their fields when it comes to religion. they might be positive 100 to one religion while-100 to another.
why can't everyone just be sensitive about the other people around us? does unification mean so much that you have to cause religious discord? we do understand what's good in different religions, but if you're forcefully trying to exert an influence into a society that comprises of a jargon of different religions, you're bound to get flak. and by flak, i mean, a lot of flak. a lot.
seriously, i hope this is an one off case. i don't want want to feed my slippers with hot and ashy substances a second time.
